Sir Keir Starmer has come under fire after he was accused of a possible backlash for resetting relationships with the EU.

The Prime Minister is set to appear at a press conference alongside the European Commission and European Council presidents later today.

Britain’s former chief Brexit negotiator Lord Frost has said Starmer’s reset of relations with Brussels is a "step back towards being controlled by the European Union in important areas of our national life" adding "that’s not what people voted for in 2016."

Meanwhile, Labour MPs have warned Sir Keir Starmer that his sought-after Brexit reset deal risks a backlash from voters.

Bassetlaw MP Jo White, head of the Red Wall group of MPs, told The Telegraph: "We tighten immigration with one hand and potentially loosen the strings with the other.

"Whilst the scheme already operates with Australia, Canada and New Zealand, I don’t see young people from areas like mine benefiting from it unless there are very clear parameters."

However, Calum Miller, the Liberal Democrat foreign affairs spokesman, will say his party wants to work constructively to secure a new trade deal with Europe in order to boost public finances.

He said: "A far more ambitious trade deal with Europe, including a new UK-EU customs union, would be the single biggest thing ministers could do to boost growth and fix the public finances."

This poll is now closed. See the full results below and continue to have your say in the comments.

In the exclusive poll for GB News membership readers, an overwhelming majority (97 per cent) of the 2,785 voters don't think Britain needs to reset relations with the EU, while just two per cent disagree and one per cent are not sure.
